Deities of the Shadowlands

Spirit-Gods

ALLAHN, THE CANDLE MAN - is a popular and very active deity.  The Candle Man is the spirit of enlightenment and truth, who began his ascent to godhood as one of the many spirits trapped by Necronias.  Like many others spirits trapped in the Citadel, Allahn's plight led to his recognition, and fame amongst the common folk. Allahn is a generous and benign spirit, whom the Knights of the Candle have chosen as the patron spirit.

GLANDRYTH - is the spirit of honor, and defender of the common folk.  Glandryth's past is well documented. He was last seen battling Thadun the faceless one in a fray that razed Shadowglade in 387 A.F.  The Knight of the Blade formed in Glandryth's honor.

THE JACK O'LANTERN - is the spirit of the field and justice, whom was defeated and replaced by Thadun, but was freed upon Thadun's death.  The Jack O'Lantern has a knighthood dedicated to his ideals of justice. They are the Knights of the Lantern.

THADUN, THE FACELESS ONE - is the fallen scion of Hell, but upon his death became worshipped as the spirit of deception.  It is believed an evil cult the worships Thadun might be on the rise.

NECRONIAS, THE NECROMANCER - upon his final death was seen as the spirit of undeath, and necromancy.  It is unknown if any would be base enough to worship Necronias the ravager openly.

THALEUS, THE BLACK FAIRY - has since his first death in the year 3339 G.S. ( Great School ), become the spirit of evil faeries.  He has recently recruited many thousands of goblin worshipers.

MELCYNDA - is the spirit of peace and self-sacrifice.  Melcynda has always been a tragic figure, whom in later years despite her giving birth to an abomination, was seen as a solemn heroine.

THE PHOENIX - is the spirit of cycles and ages.  It is the embodiment of birth, death, and rebirth.  Its rise to the heavens heralds the beginning of an age of light, and its death portents the coming of an age of darkness.  Those who serve the Phoenix work to bring about a new age of light.

New Gods

ADAOMAN - is the ancient god of the earth.  Adaoman has been a benign if not neutral deity, whose true past was forgotten eons ago. Little about his worshipers is known, but currently he has no known acolytes or temples, some even say that Adaoman has become a Muse.  Adaoman was last seen, when he was summoned in roughly the year 50 G.S. ( Great School ), to guide the five mages to the Death Stone, and who in turn used it to slay the Necromancer. Adaoman may have been the creator of the Death Stone.

ARBOLETH - the ancient goblin god of the woodlands.  Scholars have detailed Arboleth in the town library if you wish more information, but recent information says a large part of the goblin nation has turned away from the tree god to worship the Black Fairy, Thaleus.  Arboleth has been a long time rival of Vine, the Green Man. The two gods vie for forests as to whether they will become dark goblin woods, or light forests.

TROTH - is the god of the sacred oath.  He will aid those who swear by him to fulfill their oath, but is harsh to those who betray, or fail to do what they have sworn.

KISMET - is the goddess of luck and good fortune.  She can be a fickle deity, but is greatly favored by diviners, whom wish to know the future, or adventurous souls, who find themselves in dire straits.

SURTUR - is title held by the reigning lord of fire, and has been a popular deity amongst barbarian invaders, Destroyers, and other highly destructive beings.  Surtur has long reigned as supreme deity of fire, and even has a knighthood in his name, the Knights of the Flame. Surtur has somewhat grudgingly accepted the Candle Man as another deity of fire, when Allahn explained it was enlightenment he sought not razing the world by fire.  Surtur and Allahn both are served by servants known as Flamebringers. It is rumored Surtur vies with an unknown being known as Ymir, lord of ice, who is said to have many caves named after him.

ATU - Perhaps one of the oldest of all deities, with perhaps the exception of Adaoman is Atu the enigmatic god of pathways and mysteries.  Nothing is known of Atu, except that he is favored by Guides, and represented by primitive masks.

RANU - a once powerful deity that was reduced to a simple spirit hound, that aided Glandryth. Ranu was severely beaten by an unknown demon, and escaped into the mystic blade, Frgamer, to which he is bound. Ranu has begun to regain power as the god of loyalty, and as the hunter of evil. The Knights of the Eye were assemble to honor Ranu, and seek to vanquish evil.

STRIFE - was the god of conflict.  Little is remembered about this deity except his ability to breed discontent, and distrust amongst even the closest of friends.  Strife was destroyed an age ago.

The Lost Gods

These ancient gods have all but been forgotten in this part of the Shadowlands.  The proper rights and prayers have been forgotten, so the Lost Gods may only be evoked with a massive offering, equal at least to a gold piece.

Each Lost God has a great hall in the sky.  These halls look like stars but they did not stay in one place, like other stars. People called them Wandering Stars, and they are were the gods preside, except for two of the gods, Gevistah and Nueid who live in the sun and moon.  It was said that their halls were once far away too, but these two loved their people so much that they brought their homes closer.

Each god has a color, and provence, and Wandering Star.

Gevistah always wears gold, for that was the sun's color. He is the God of Life and light.

Nueid's color is silver like the moon which he lived in.  Nueid is the god of emotion.

Mei'it is the god of intelligence and his color is blue.

Jravea is the goddess of body and warrior skill.  Her color is white.

Hdus is the god of power.  Everything about Hdus was red.

Byuc is truly powerful.  In many ways he is the leader of the Old Ones.  He was the god of Spirit and Magic. He always wore purple.

Q'Palg is the oldest of the Lost Gods and the only one Byuc did not rule over.  Q'Palg's color is black and he rules over death and time.

The Ladder of Life was a test given by this pantheon, and represented the path to becoming a true hero.  The first step was Nueid, for first one had to learn control his emotions. Next came Mei'it. His was a test of intelligence.  Then came Jravea. When a someone had mastered their skills as a warrior then they could try to pass her step. After Jravea came Gevistah to pass his test you must create a life.  Next came Hdus, then Byuc and finally Q'Palg. To truly become a hero you need to surpass both death and time. Some say that is how the Gods before the Spirit Gods came about, by going all the way up the ladder of lights.

The Muses

When a god or goddess is forgotten on this earth they join the pantheon known collectively as the Muses, and as such they tend to be the oldest of all divine beings.  Their prayers, temples, and even their names have faded from this world. Never the less, the Muses still exist, and affect the world. They pass judgement on mortals and gods alike, but whatever their design is for this world even the gods could not say.

Other Mystic Beings

THE CHAOS WEAVER - is a chaos being that is born to weave destruction and mayhem.  He is thought to have been one of Necronias' seven Chosen.

THE FOOL- he is a being of creativity, whimsy, and short-sightedness.  Seen in garishly bright colors, with his bag on his shoulder and a rose in his hand.  He is a benign, but unpredictable god. He grants great power to whom he wishes.

THE TRUTH WEAVER - is a order being who wishes to illuminate all.  The Truth Weaver is an ally of Allahn, who sometimes resides at Candle Keep.

FLAME & CINDER - are Thadun's two oldest siblings, who have escaped Hell to reap death, and chaos upon the Shadowlands.  Flame is the brazen warrior, and master of might, while Cinder is the trickster and master of guile. They wish to be the next Scions of Hell.

THE CRONE- is an old witch that wanders the Shadowlands. She is the creator of the Crone Stones, the Well of Visions, the Places of Appointed Time, and the most recent author of the Amythest Tome.  Her only company in these long centuries had been an evil cat familiar named Skulk that was slain by the people of Shadowglade. She was a reluctant founder of the Guardians of Saarden, and the grandmother of Melcynda, and in turn the great grandmother of Necronias.  To this day she attempts to unravel Necronias' evils.

THE WHITE LADY - is the Queen of the Faerie.  She is responsible for creating the myriad different forms of Faerie from satyrs to elves to goblins.  The White Lady is a extremely powerful, and benign deity, who seeks to aid and uplift all her faerie children.
